Tina L. Stark

Tina L. Stark is the principal of Stark Legal Education, Inc. She formed SLE in 1993 under the name In-house Legal Education, Inc. Through SLE, Tina has lectured on law and business issues at over 375 programs in the United States, Canada, China, England, Italy, and Poland.

Tina is a Professor in the Practice of Law at Emory University School of Law and the Executive Director of Emory’s Center for Transactional Law and Practice. The Center was established in 2007 to focus on the business and legal aspects of transactional law and skills. Before joining the Emory faculty, Tina was an Adjunct Professor at Fordham Law School for fourteen years. She taught courses on drafting, transactional skills, and business. Tina has also taught as an adjunct at Hofstra University School of Law. In addition, she has served as a consultant to an English law school.

Tina’s teaching emphasizes the relationship between law and business, and draws upon her experience both as a corporate law partner at Chadbourne & Parke LLP and as a banker at Irving Trust Company. While at Chadbourne, Tina had a broad-based transactional practice, including acquisitions, dispositions, recapitalizations, and financings. In addition, she developed and implemented the firm’s corporate training program.

Tina received her A.B., with honors, from Brown University and her J.D. from New York University School of Law. There, she was a contributing editor to the Journal of International Law & Politics. After law school, Tina clerked for Judge Jacob D. Fuchsberg of the New York State Court of Appeals and was an associate with Barrett Smith Schapiro Simon & Armstrong.

Tina is a former co-chair of the Committee on Business Law Education, a committee of the ABA Section of Business Law.

From 1994 to 1996, Tina served as a member, by appointment of New York Chief Judge Judith S. Kaye, of The Professional Education Project. That committee studied the legal education continuum in New York State and recommended, among other things, that continuing legal education become mandatory for all lawyers admitted in New York.
